I pulled my electric pink wallet from my pale pink purse, my salmon colored bag sacked over my left shoulder. As I searched for my debit card to pay for the latest issue of Allure, my cashier asked if pink was my favorite color. It was only when I walked away that I realized my shirt was pink too. Slightly embarrassed, I felt my cheeks flush an appropriate rosy hue.
I’ve always been fascinated with the color pink and its wide spectrum of shades. Vibrant pinks exude fun, energetic qualities, while mauve shades carry an air of maturity. Needless to say, when I scheduled my flight for Los Angeles, the infamous pink wall on Melrose Avenue earned a spot on my list of things to see. As I strolled up to Paul Smith (location of the pink wall), bloggers and tourists were already posing and snapping photos as if it were the Hollywood sign itself! While I was glad to have my own pictures taken in front of this pink wall, I was even more excited about the restaurants and shops that it lead me to. Having never been to Los Angeles, I don’t know if Melrose Avenue would have made my list!
The Outfit (details at the bottom)
California’s seventy-degree shopping weather called for casual, comfortable layers. Melrose Street is loaded with outdoor shops such as Nasty Gal and The Reformation, so it was essential to dress for the weather and the occasion.
The base of my outfit is your classic jeans and tee. My particular jeans are cropped flares from Banana Republic, and my creme thermal is from Free People.
To add warmth and style, I opted for a long, creme outerwear piece that I recently purchased from Zara. The summer temperature is slowly climbing, but the short sleeves on this coat make it feasible for cooler nights on the town. I love how easily this item pairs with anything! Incorporate this long, structured jacket over leggings and a tee to dress up your airplane look, or you can smarten up your work outfit by pairing it with black skinny slacks and a crisp, button-down top.
I finished my look with white summer sandals and reflective pink Ray Bans. The Steve Madden flats strap around the ankles and are perfect for strolling around town!
My neutral ensemble definitely pops against this magenta background, but this layered combo will make you stand out anywhere! Comfortable, classic, chic, and definitely SoCal!
