Valentine’s Day, the holiday that left your backpack stuffed with little Valentine’s cards and your stomach full of Conversation Hearts. Every year, my mom would buy me a new shirt to wear to school on Valentines Day. I was always more excited about the cute pink outfit than I was about the copious mouthfuls of chocolate and Fun Dip! To this day, I anxiously await February 14th solely for the fashion.
Okay, maybe the chocolate too!
My elementary school interpretation of Valentine’s fashion was very elementary; I wore extreme pinks, vibrant reds, and hearts galore. I love that bold spirit, however, I now find myself more subtly incorporating Valentine’s Day themes into my look. I call it The Understated Valentine.
This year, I’ve teamed up with my blogger gal pal, Nicole Alexandra (Be Hue), to put together two adorable Valentine looks that we hope you will fall in love with! This is my first blogger collab, and I’m so happy with the results! While I chose to emphasize red, Nicole went for a pink and white look that is sophisticated, girly, and extremely chic! I styled a neutral ensemble, relying on details to capture the sweet essence of Valentine’s Day.
First of all, I have to talk about these jeans! I’ve been dying for a pair of the cropped flare jeans that have been all over fashion blogs and Instagram. Last week, I found them on sale at bananarepublic.gap.com. The best part? They come in Tall! With a 29” inseam, these pants fit like a glove and they add the perfect hint of femininity for a casual Valentine’s Day outfit.
I paired my new jeans with a crème thermal top. The fluttery sleeves are a fun touch. Cupid’s wings, anyone?
To incorporate red into my attire, I tied a red and white flannel around my waist, shaded my lips with a punchy red color, and wore dainty little “xo” earrings as a tribute to my signature, “xoxopelka.”
Dressing up for holidays can be as low-key or over-the-top as you like. Nicole and I opted for really wearable wardrobe pieces that you can probably find in your own closet. Make intentional fashion selections to capture your love for Valentine’s Day, and I can guarantee that you will feel special in your outfit!
Stay tuned and stand tall!
